Katie Werneke and Max Elsass met while working their first job out of college, when Max’s boss tried to set up the couple. The two quickly became good friends, and after an outing to a piano bar, decided their friendship should become something more. When planning their wedding, they ran with the theme of their July 4th wedding date, incorporating an Americana feel and a “fancy picnic” vibe. Dinner consisted of Juicy Lucys, fried chicken and a tater tot bar; dessert featured mini pies, cupcakes, red, white and blue whoopee pies, and a s’mores bar.
It was actually Katie’s dad who helped the couple, who live in Ohio, pick the Mississippi Dunes Golf Club location. After seeing the club’s stunning views while attending another wedding there, he mentioned the venue to his daughter. Once she and Max visited for themselves, they agreed it was the perfect place. “It really was the best day ever,” says Katie.
