It all started with a plant. Cannabis professionals Rachelle Gordon and Kurt Kinneman met at a networking event and sparked an instant connection. When the pair became engaged in 2023, one month after Minnesota legalized weed, they knew they wanted cannabis to play a role in their wedding day. Kastina Morrison, owner of Kastina & Co., met the couple’s high expectations and brought the state’s first weed wedding to life. “It was an opportunity to break new ground and educate their loved ones at the same time,” Morrison says.
As a hemp farmer, Kurt reached out to fellow local grower, Molly Cronk of MJ Habadashary to play host. Style Society understood the assignment and elevated the “classy cannabis” theme to a new level, blending locally grown blooms and curated cannabis plants starting with the wedding party bouquets and boutonnieres. It was truly a labor of love, as Kurt harvested several hemp plants from his farm to serve as décor. A floral-lined aisle set the tone for the nature-inspired day while the reception captured the bold vision with florals and cannabis stalks framing the tent, adding an aromaticexperience.
A “Bubbles & Buds” wall offered guests Champagne, beer or a THC drink. A bud bar hosted by a knowledgeable “budtender,” who also happened to be a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, rolled joints of various THC and CBD varieties for guests, taking the personalization of the event a step further. “Being able to showcase the cannabis plant in a safe and thoughtful way was also a key highlight for the couple,” Morrison says. “The guests were able to learn about marijuana in a non-judgmental environment.” By seamlessly incorporating cannabis with creativity and intention, Rachelle and Kurt paved the way for a new era of weddings that celebrate self-expression, sustainability and innovation.
