Wedding: June 11, 2016
Ceremony: Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church, Minneapolis
Reception: Calhoun Beach Club, Minneapolis
Honeymoon: St. Lucia
Katie Thibeau and Matt Kunz both grew up in Edina and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison together. When they started planning their wedding, they wanted a venue that celebrated their love of lakes, both the energetic lake culture of Minneapolis and the serene waters up north, where they spent time as a couple. Lakes also fit the theme of their proposal. Matt originally planned to take Katie onto frozen Lake Harriet on New Year’s Eve, but an arctic blast moved the proposal indoors. The couple liked that the Calhoun Beach Club was “in their backyard,” and offered an elegant yet urban space for their guests. The classic décor also gave the couple lots of creative freedom. “It was a clean slate; we didn’t have to work around anything,” says Katie. They started with ivory and cream for the color palette, but there was also something old and something blue to highlight the day. Katie’s mom surprised her with a piece of her blue baby pillow made by her godmother. Katie also took a piece of lace from her mother’s wedding dress and sewed it inside of her own dress, right over the heart.
