Aly and Justin's story predates dating apps, possibly even online dating. Friends throughout middle and high school, they both attended University of Minnesota. Though on opposite sides of the river, their paths rarely crossed until a run-in nearing the end of their undergrad. A meetup followed by another random sighting catalyzed them to simply accept fate. Justin proposed during a hike in Big Sur, California in 2015, where he surpised her with a ring just as she was about to pose for the camera he'd been setting up. The wedding took place on a breezy and bright summer day, as was the mood of the gathering, filled with laughter and "happy tears." The reception featured stunning eats, including a donut tower along with a smaller traditional wedding cake. The bride and groom even hand-wrote personal notes inside each placecard, specific to each guest.

"While the girls were in town getting hair and makeup done, the groom's party camped out in the little cabin on the property and folded paper cranes to surprise Aly with, as they had a special meaning to the couple. Before she and her girls arrived, the guys filled the bridal suite with these paper cranes and a special love note Justin wrote to Aly. Watching the guys laugh and learn how to fold origami cranes from a last-minute Google search was pretty hilarious."
