Michelle Green and Christopher Hightower’s love story stood the test of time — and COVID —while Michelle, a family medicine doctor, spent long days and nights practically living in the El Paso hospital where she was doing her residency. The couple was able to get away to Phoenix for a few days over Christmas 2020, and on Christmas Eve, Christopher’s surprise proposal during an unexpected lakeside stroll brought tears to Michelle’s eyes. Tradition and family were at the forefront of their nuptials at The Hutton House. The couple opted for a rich palette of blue, burgundy and gold. Michelle gave Jamie Spellerberg of Wilderland Floral full rein for the design, yielding luxe blooms in shades of red and white in the bouquets, centerpieces and an impressive floral arch. As Michelle’s family is from Ghana and Nigeria, the couple wanted to include elements of her culture into the wedding. After their traditional American ceremony, bride, groom, their parents and the 26-person wedding party changed into custom-made traditional West African outfits. For a twist on the usual guest book, Michelle and Chris laid out Polaroid cameras for their guests to take a picture of themselves and tape it into the book with a small note. To commemorate the Hightowers’ magical wedding day, guests left with drawings from a sketch artist.
