From day one, Katherine Beckmann and Brendan Connelly felt at ease with one another, enjoying dates amazingly free of awkward silences and other struggles to connect. After a year and a half, Brendan proposed at Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis on a walk with their dog Pushkin. The couple wanted their outdoor wedding to have the feel of an elegant but fun summer party. To this end, they included lawn games, a live bluegrass band during cocktail hour, and 11 kinds of beer that Katherine’s father had spent the previous year brewing just for the occasion. Katherine incorporated her love of needlework, hand-stitching the couple’s hashtag on the many table numbers and banners. The speeches were delightfully diverse, with a funny speech by Brendan’s best man, a heartfelt, touching speech by Katherine’s sister and maid of honor, and an original rap by Katherine’s two younger sisters welcoming Brendan to the family.
