Get With the Program

Your wedding program can tell your love story. Here’s how four local designers helped couples do just that.

Jill Elaine, owner of Jill Elaine Designs, collaborated with a slew of local creatives for this program. She turned to Katie Ryan of Queenikathleeni Designs for a custom illustration of the church, Clair Daley of Hooked Calligraphy for hand-lettering and Shasta Bell of Shasta Bell Calligraphy for the hand-dyed silk ribbon. Luxuriously thick cotton paper complements the bespoke feel of the finished piece. Elaine describes the program as “romantic, sophisticated, artisan and truly custom.”

2} On the Flip Side

Julie and Ben Chaet, the husband-and-wife design team behind Champagne Press, have the iconic Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love” lyrics engraved inside their wedding rings. These beloved lines served as inspiration for this custom program design, where they bonded two stocks of different colors to create a visual play on the lyrics. Julie knows that no couple has exactly the same tastes, but good design can make everyone happy, balancing modern and romantic, feminine and masculine, for a beautiful result.

3} Fan Favorite

“Your wedding is a wonderful opportunity
for ‘the other side’ to get to know you and your fiancé and what makes
you tick,” says Kate Panke, owner at Paper Rock Scissor. She used icons
and text to tell this couple’s love story on a program that doubled as a
fan. “Those details are such an easy way to make the wedding ceremony
even more personal,” adds Panke. Digital printing adorned the crisp
ivory cardstock, while a pretty silk ribbon tied around the wooden
handle dressed it up for the occasion. “We want couples to be able to
look back on the pieces we created 25 years from now and find them just
as timeless and personal as they were on their wedding day.”

4} Pretty as a Poppy

This couple wanted a cheerful, vibrant stationery suite and Amy Steil Peña, co-owner of Mi Mi Design, obliged with a sunny poppy motif. “We got to embrace bright, warm tones and a fun, whimsical pattern,” says Steil Peña. The invitation features letterpress printing on thick cotton paper, but the program was printed digitally to save expense. “Every couple is so different,” says Steil Peña. “I love being able to explore a wide range of design styles and seek out a unique look for them. It keeps my job from ever getting dull.”
