College sweethearts Rachel and Luke wanted to make their wedding on the shores of Sturgeon Lake as eco-friendly as possible. The DIY couple made everything, from the woven burlap table runners to the bride’s and bridesmaids’ jewelry to the bar signs using driftwood from the Chesapeake Bay (the region where they currently live). They chose YMCA Camp Miller as their wedding venue because of their love of camping and the outdoors; they also liked that a portion of the camp’s profits go to help kids attend camp who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it. Guests stayed on-site in lodges and enjoyed a weekend full of canoeing, kayaking and hiking. On the big day, Rachel says she remembers feeling “completely overwhelmed by love and appreciation for my husband, our relationship, and our family and friends all coming together.”
Going green is more than just a color choice.
