Emily Schmalz and Brandon Kelly, who started dating their first year at dental school, knew where they wanted to get married before they even got engaged. They fell in love with Mayowood Stone Barn when they attended a close friend’s wedding there. “As soon as we got engaged I called to see if it was available, and it was!” Emily says. For their wedding, they wanted a very relaxed, cozy feel, so they borrowed from the barn’s vintage and rustic themes. Guests drank hot apple cider and snuggled around outdoor fire pits, although the fall weather cooperated nicely. Emily incorporated lots of special details, including wearing her grandmother’s ring, and using pumpkins grown by a friend as centerpieces. Brandon’s ring was especially sentimental—it was made out of copper pennies from the birth years of the couple, as well as those of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
