Amy Fuerstenberg and Amy Steil of Mi Mi Design drew on their love affair with the American Southwest to imagine a wedding infused with the colors and textures of the desert. “Lately we’ve been inspired by geometric patterns, watercolor washes, feathers, arrows and air plants,” says Steil. Here, the creative duo show us how to bring the Southwest to the Midwest.
Light as a Feather (above)
A dessert takes its cues from the desert. The palette was inspired by a sunset watercolor, highlighted with touches of gilding. Handpainted chevron and abstract patterns and handmade sugar feathers tie in the motif.
Look Sharp
Garden roses and peonies go sophisticated, dotted with spiky air plants and wrapped in leather cord for a perfectly modern-romantic bouquet.
Gold Plated
Get fancy with china edged in gold and flatware to match. A lush centerpiece flows over a sturdy wooden box, ready to steal the glowing spotlight. An aqua napkin and an air plant complete each perfect setting.
Cupid’s Arrow
Send your guests home with beautiful cookie favors embellished with edible gold leaf and a pair of golden arrows.
May Your Aim Be True
A custom-designed pattern sets the tone for the celebration ahead with crisp geometry and a soft palette of aqua and coral. Calligraphed envelopes and vintage cactus stamps add personality and Southwestern flavor. A boutonniere wrapped in gold twine echoes the casually elegant vibe of the bouquet.
Places, Everyone
Calligraphed place cards recall the flourish of a quill pen thanks to gold-dipped feathers.
