WEDDING: December 28, 2019
In eighth grade, Ian Eliason taught Sydney Kamp how to make paper airplanes. The duo then dated in high school but parted ways in college. They got back together a few years later, and while on a trip to Portugal, Ian proposed to Sydney on a balcony overlooking the mountains and valleys of Duoro Valley.
Reminiscent of their days in junior high, guests threw paper airplanes inscribed with well wishes as the newlyweds made their way down the aisle. Full of personality and charm, Sydney and Ian’s wedding brought warmth to a snowy day. Snug inside Ashery Lane Farms, Sydney shared a private moment with her mom, who helped Sydney into her flowing gown.
The bride carried a lush bouquet of white roses and bay leaves—a nod to her profession as a chef—that matched the garland set above the grand fireplace—all of which harkened back to the white blossoms Ian used to give her in high school.
As a chef, Sydney gave special attention to dinner, with personalized menus with color-coded seals and wine pairings; one wine came from the Portuguese winery the couple visited the day after they got engaged.
After dinner, the couple tripped the light fantastic with a first dance to the Piano Guys’ “Pictures at an Exhibition”—a waltz they had learned in their high school Latin- ballroom class.
