Weaving features of your home state into your wedding is a unique way to add
a personal touch to your décor. Textile artist and wedding photographer Emily
Steffen knows that brides also seek out handmade wedding-day accessories, which
is why she created a line of state-shaped ring bearer pillows.
A far cry from the white satin cushions traditionally toted up the aisle,
these handmade pillows are stitched from rustic wool or classic neutral linens
and adorned with a custom-colored heart. Steffen says that brilliant rings set
against contrasting textures make for excellent photographs.
“I believe you can tell your story throughout lots of little details in your
wedding,” says Steffen. “That can then translate into a piece you bring home and
use forever.”
After the wedding, couples can use the cushion as throw pillow on a bed, in
the living room or in a baby’s crib. Due to the pillow’s popularity, Steffen has
also started making larger versions, which make a great newlywed gift. The
Hudson, Wisconsin-based artist makes cushions shaped like all 50 states,
although Minnesota pillows are in the highest demand. Ring bearer pillow,
$25. Throw pillow, $40. 715.220.9443, emilysteffen.com
