Bad-hair days stink. A bad hair day on your wedding day? Unthinkable. Thankfully, with a surge in blowdry bars around the Twin Cities, bad-hair days just may be a thing of the past.

Blowdry bars, where hair stylists skip the cut and dye and go straight to the shampoo, blowout and style, have become hot spots for ladies who crave a little luxury and sleek locks between salon visits. “Hollywood starlets all enjoy regular blowouts,” says Laura Prow, marketing director of Blowdry! Blowdry Bar in Uptown Minneapolis. “The arrival of the blowdry bar has made the blowout affordable, convenient and a fun experience for Twin Cities women.”

While the menu of services may seem limited compared to traditional salons, many blowdry bars make up for it with special touches like scalp massages, warm towel service, refreshments and comfy seating. Three blowdry bars in the metro—Blast Blow Dry Bar, Blowdry! Blowdry Bar and the Wow Bar—also offer services like updos, hair treatments, makeup applications and waxing services. Blast Blow Dry Bar in Minneapolis and St. Louis Park has VIP rooms for groups to host a party and enjoy food and drinks as they get glam.

The full-on beauty concept lends itself perfectly to group primping sessions for weddings and parties. Brides, maids and moms can bond over blowouts as part of a shower, bachelorette party or the big day. “Brides devote countless hours to every detail to make their day beautiful,” says Alyssa Caplan, co-founder of the Wow Bar in Edina. “Being able to get your hair done with friends in a fun atmosphere sets the perfect tone for the big day.”

Prefer to have the celebrity treatment brought to you? A team from Jon Charles Salon will arrive curbside at your home or venue with their Blown Away HairStream mobile trailer in tow. Invite the girls over and “blowout before you go out”—or for the wedding day, have the crew get the entire wedding party (groomsmen too!) photo ready.

Blowouts at the blowdry bars average $35. HairStream rental $400 to $2,000 depending on the services and size of the party.
