A BRIEF HISTORY OF SURLY BREWING
Minnesota’s craft beer revolution started in the corner of a suburban abrasives factory owned by Surly founder Omar Ansari’s parents. It’s where the game-changing Furious IPA was crafted, leading to a stack of medals from the Great American Beer Festival and Best Brewery in America honors. We couldn’t sell our own beer there, so Surly Nation helped us change a Minnesota law that had been on the books since Prohibition. All those taprooms out there? That’s how that happened. The biggest one is in Surly’s state-of-the-art brewing facility in Minneapolis, where you can drink a Furious and enjoy critically acclaimed food in our Beer Hall and Surly Pizza Upstairs, host a private event, or see your favorite band at Festival Field. And Surly Nation continues to grow, distributing beer to nine states and Canada, with more on the way.
