Despite attending the same small-town high school, Aasta Bakke and Jordan Waugh didn’t really get acquainted until their sophomore year in college. Years later, Aasta and a girlfriend were vacationing in Alaska and drove from Anchorage to Seward to hike a mountain. When they got to the top, Jordan was there waiting, engagement ring in hand. The couple wed at Stonewall Farms under a canopy of trees. Aasta’s father, a pastor, officiated, and her mother arranged the music. One of the bride’s favorite moments came during the ceremony, when their guests came forward and each said a prayer for the newlyweds and the next chapter of their life together. Another favorite was the family tradition with their Norweigan wedding cake, the kransekake, made from almond-flavored pastry rings. The cultural tradition is for the bride and groom to lift the top layer of the cake; the number of cake rings that stick to the top layer is said to be the number of children they will have. Because it was such a humid day, the cake had melted a little and was very sticky, so they lifted up 17 (!) rings.
