Ray began his career more than 40 years ago in his native Australia, where as a teenager he studied the fine art of restoration under master jewelers who specialized in designing and repairing royalty crowns and vintage European suites of jewelry. In that position, he learned how to create the grid-like pattern found in gold crowns, which gives each piece a distinctive design element and visual heft while allowing it to remain light and easy to wear. That technique would ultimately become Ray’s signature Crownwork® that is present in each piece he designs.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Ray was partner and head designer at Sydney’s premier jewelry store, before relocating to New York City. He creates luxurious, sophisticated jewelry from a sun-filled studio on Fifth Avenue, where he works on jewelry restoration and custom design. Ray’s work is inspired by the Edwardian and Regency eras, Spanish Moors, and Roman Greco, as well as his love for mid-century architecture. He has received numerous honors for his work, and his line include rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, wedding, custom work, and his Everyday Ray casual collection.
