Ms. Kerman is known for her striking, contemporary work, both custom and collections. Her motto is, “It’s the balance, not the symmetry,” and that design aesthetic is evident in each of her pieces. She started her studio, Janis Kerman Design, in 1977 and initially focused on fashion accessories and handbags crafted of leather and metal work. In the 1990s she turned her creative focus to working exclusively with fine metals and vibrant stones to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Her unique work quickly gained a loyal following of fans around the world. Ms. Kerman is known for her custom-designed jewelry and she has created pieces for many international dignitaries and celebrities. Many couples go to Ms. Kerman to have their wedding jewelry custom-designed, giving them the sentimentality of wearing a family heirloom that’s been re-fashioned into jewelry that represents their own unique style. Janis Kerman jewelry is sold in galleries and fine boutiques around the world. Max’s is the exclusive Minnesota retailer to carry the line.
