Joynoelle’s 2017 collection, Fun*gi: Beauty from Decay, explores the world of mycology and nature's transformative ability to create new life from decomposition. Her show bridges fashion and art based on the colors and textures of molds, spores, lichen and mushrooms.
Joy Teiken's fungi concept emerged from her many hikes in the Otter Tail County woods near her cabin. The colors and textures on those journeys led to an obsession with the mycelium world. Thus taken, she dug deeper into the subject, creating passion, respect -- and a new collection.
The evening will be hosted by Minneapolis-based style expert, Grant Whittaker and part of the presentation will include University of Minnesota associate professor, Peter Kennedy giving a brief talk about the importance of fungi in our world. Professor Kennedy is an award-winning mycologist who received his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley and is broadly interested in plant-microbe interactions.
The runway presentation will be followed by cocktails and music by DJ Lori B amid models in a gallery instillation setting.
Show sponsors include The Arquette Agency, Fatima Olive Beauty and Bespoke Hair Artisans and Aria.
This year, Ms. Teiken is donating 100% of proceeds to Kill Kancer in honor of her mother who lost her battle with breast cancer.
