Max’s at The Shops at Excelsior & Grand will welcome back popular jewelry designer Ray Griffiths for a trunk show September 15-16. The event is free and open to the public. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. September 15, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. September 16.
Ray began his career more than 40 years ago in his hometown of Sydney, Australia, where as a teenager he studied the fine art of restoration under master jewelers who specialized in designing and repairing royalty crowns and vintage European suites of jewelry. In that position, he learned how to create the grid-like pattern found in gold crowns, which gives each piece a distinctive design element and visual heft while allowing it to remain light and easy to wear. The opening credits of the Netflix series The Crown show the geometric pattern that’s formed from molten gold as Queen Elizabeth II’s headpiece is created. That technique would ultimately become Ray’s signature Crownwork® that is present in each piece he designs.
