Former Miss Minnesota Ties the Knot and Celebrates Wedding Day on Shores of Lake Minnetonka

“It was always a dream of mine to create the dance I would perform with my husband on our wedding day, outside, in our beautiful state,” Michaelene Karlen recounts—a fitting sentiment for the professional ballerina, former Miss Minnesota and businesswoman. Her wish came true when she and Harry Spell wed in a lakeside celebration inspired by classical ballet. Michaelene owns an organic skin care company, and the lush floral installations of romantic white blooms and a wealth of greenery reflected her passion for natural botanicals. Upon arrival, guests mingled on the patio, sampled signature cocktails named for the couple’s dogs, Nina and Greta, and enjoyed mezze fare (a nod to Harry’s Greek heritage) before they made their way down the floral pathway to the lakefront wedding arch for the nuptials, officiated by a family friend. Michaelene turned to the pro, her makeup artist from the Miss Minnesota pageant and opted to do her hair herself. At the reception, guests received a handwritten mini scroll attached to each dinner menu with wildflower wax seals, with hand-scribed table numbers under glass domes, each graced by a bloom. Beneath a magical tent outfitted with chandeliers and a live floral ceiling, music and dance completed the enchanting night of romance.
