Frank Murphy Fashions
The annual sales were legendary, airing on televisions around the world. The owners were good friends with big name fashion designers Pauline Trigère, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Maxwell, and Ralph Lauren. And it’s where one of America’s most acclaimed artists, Gordon Parks, got his start. Since it’s beginnings in 1931, at the corner of 5th Street and St. Peter downtown St. Paul, Frank Murphy has carried a legacy of bringing the latest fashion movements to the Midwest. Celebrities including Carol Channing, Gloria Swanson, and Carol Burnett frequented the shop when they were in town. It grew into an iconic retail institution known for couture fashion, opulent décor, excellent customer service, and the annual Give Away Sale.
Recently re-opened under new ownership in downtown White Bear Lake, Frank Murphy carries everything from prom and bridesmaids to mother of the bride and gala, catering to each generation with the full range of sizes and price-points. The gowns and accessories are individually chosen by experienced buyers from designers around the world. Frank Murphy’s master tailor Holly can handle all your alteration needs from athleisure to formalwear, she even specializes in menswear.
