I'm sure you've all seen the photos. In the last few years the 'first look' has become an incredibly popular aspect of many couple's big day.With countless variations, these can turn out to be some of the sweetest moments captured at your wedding.
But what ever happened to the ominous 'bad luck to see the bride' superstition? In the end, it all boils down to what matters most to you; individually, and as a couple.
To me, the biggest attraction of this budding tradition is the time spent with your soon-to-be spouse just before you embark on a lifelong adventure. It seems so impactful that the last time you see them before joining in marriage happens just minutes before, instead of hours or a whole day. The hustle and bustle of tasks and to-do's leading up to the wedding can seem endless, and the event itself with the festivities afterward is a flurry of activity. Those quiet moments provide a midpoint to connect and regroup -- a time to enjoy each other, appreciate the hard work, and look forward at what's to come. And alright let's be honest, those adorable photos help too.
For practicality, some choose to include a first look so that group photos can take place before the wedding when makeup and flowers are fresh, and guests aren't hungry. This eliminates the sometimes lengthy pause after the ceremony and before the reception, creating a more fluid experience for those in attendence.
For the traditionalist, however, there is something to be said for the anticipation that builds in waiting for the ceremony to see your beloved.
