A sunset walk along Mississippi Boulevard in St. Paul on a bitterly cold December night ended with candlelit lanterns and Nick Kelsey’s proposal to Rachel Weigel. COVID postponed their spring wedding plans; instead, they got married on a glorious autumn day. Family and friends from 18 states attended the ceremony performed by Rachel’s childhood priest, with siblings and childhood friends of the bride and groom as attendants. The real stars of the ceremony, though, were the four little ring bearers — the couple’s nephews, all under 5 years old. Cherished mementos were included in the couple’s attire: Nick wore the watch his dad wore on his wedding day, and Rachel carried a borrowed and blue handkerchief from her late grandmother. The Mill City District of Minneapolis was the setting for the couple’s first look, as well as the locale for the reception at The Depot. “We feel so blessed to have had all of our favorite people in one place, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Rachel. “After missing out on social events for almost two years, people came to party, and our dance floor was alive and well!”
