Imagine a gentle breeze blowing across the calm waters of a Minnesota lake at sunset as native grasses rustle softly nearby. This could be the site of your wedding ceremony at Reeds & Rushes, a new event venue that opened in June, just outside Howard Lake on Mallard Pass Lake.
“The highest priority on our wish list when we started our search was waterfront property," says Maddie Gruidl, who with her husband, Curtis, developed the idea over the past three years. “Mallard Pass Lake is going to provide a stunning backdrop for all couples and ensure unique photo opportunities throughout the year,” she adds.
Situated on 5½ acres, the lakeside property has plenty of beautiful outdoor settings, as well as a 7,000-square-foot building. The Great Hall can accommodate 230 for a seated ceremony or reception. The Fireside Hall has room for 70 at a seated service and 230 for cocktail hour. Couples can bring in their caterer of choice; there’s a prep kitchen to meet their needs.
The décor is modern with warm, inviting touches in tones of charcoal and cream with maple cabinetry. “We drew inspiration from Minnesota’s Scandinavian heritage," says Gruidl.
The location also meets a need for another event venue beyond the Twin Cities. “Being close to the Twin Cities is amazing, but we’re also eager to provide an event venue for the surrounding townships and smaller communities,” Gruidl says.
Yard games and an outdoor fireplace are also available, and inside, there’s the Alder Suite, a lounge with a full-swing golf and sports simulator, a kitchenette and flat-screen TV.
Reeds & Rushes is taking bookings and is offering a special rate for couples who have their wedding with them during their inaugural year (until May 1, 2024). Photos below feature some of the gorgeous on-site photo-ops from real wedding days. @randrvenue
