Classic Indian Wedding Creates Ode to Colors and Florals at the Whim

A friendship that started in a college organic chemistry class culminated in a two-day, music and dance-filled wedding seven years later for Kriti Prasad and Rohan Khazanchi. Their classic Indian wedding included three main events: the sangeet, a pre-wedding reception held the night before the wedding full of dancing, singing and celebration; the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony preceded by the baraat, the groom’s procession; and the reception, packed with speeches, dinner and dancing. Kriti’s love of playful botanical design was evident in each event, oriented around the colors seen in the magical phases of the day: sunset, dawn and twilight. Urban Daisy was ablaze with warm sunset tones of yellow, gold and orange, captured in the wealth of marigolds, used in many Hindu ceremonies, and Kriti’s gown of shimmering gold at the sangeet. The couple’s dawn-inspired marriage ceremony featured muted spring colors of lavender, mauve, pink and white lilacs and Kriti’s ivory bridal lehenga with pink, teal and blue threadwork and hand-embroidered sequins. The Whim was transformed for the twilight-themed reception with sparkling disco balls, burgundy ranunculus and dark purple tulips that popped on the tables and in centerpieces suspended from the ceiling. The couple changed into evening attire, Kriti in a custom-beaded purple and blue jumpsuit and Rohan in a dark navy suit. “Our relationship would mean nothing without the family, friends and support network we have in our lives,” Rohan said. “Ensuring that they felt as special at our wedding as they make us feel every day made for an event (or events, in our case!) of a lifetime.”
