Weddings at Woods Chapel

Nothing tops a glorious summer evening in Minnesota—except perhaps a perfect autumn afternoon. Is it any wonder that so many local brides dream of an outdoor wedding? At the recently renovated Woods Chapel in Orono, couples can say their vows at the base of a landscaped amphitheater overlooking a tranquil pond. Afterward, the bridal party and guests can linger outdoors, nibbling appetizers, sipping champagne and enjoying the pristine air under a leafy canopy.

“The grounds are romantic,” says Tracy McCall, who owns the venue with husband Jeff. “Guests are surrounded by water features and gardens. It’s quiet, serene and private.” Recent improvements mean that brides can rest easy in case the weather does take a turn for the worse. A back-up indoor chapel is available at no extra charge for each event, and the expanded indoor reception space now seats 130 guests. The original caretaker’s cottage was remodeled, too, to host the bridal party as they dress for the big event.
