Rita & Jonathan

Sept. 10, 2011 at the University Club in St. Paul

Rita Sapozhnikov and Jonathan Hovda were driving through the scenic Canadian Rockies in Banff when Jonathan decided it was the right moment to propose. Pulling the car onto a detour that boasted a breathtaking view of the rugged landscape, he suggested to Rita that they stretch their legs and have a picnic. Reaching into his backpack, Jonathan took out ... not turkey sandwiches, but an engagement ring. The couple’s wedding was filled with similarly charming surprises. The pair loves St. Paul’s historic character, so they filled their special day with elegant, Old World touches. Rita and her mom sourced vintage teapots and teacups from antique shops in the Twin Cities, which were filled with fragrant flowers and used as centerpieces at the reception dinner. After a meal of succulent pork tenderloin and savory walleye, the Vanguard Variety Band took the stage, crooning retro songs with Sinatra-esque swagger. Tapping their toes to the jazzy tunes, the bride and groom spun, dipped and swung the night away, totally in love.
