Mysti Strege and Dietrich Bijnagte’s wedding was an entirely DIY affair, a true labor of love for friends and family. They helped make the day-and-a-half setup smooth and enjoyable, including a dance party while arranging tables the night before. The bride’s mother was in charge of the flowers and took that responsibility seriously, working with a floral designer friend to transform two huge vans full of flowers into 200 gorgeous bouquets, centerpieces and other arrangements, ensuring that every corner of the reception was blossom-bedecked. Mysti’s grandfather sang an a cappella version of a song he’d written about John Wayne and kissing horses, offering the assembled guests unique (if slightly bewildering) wedding entertainment. Dietrich’s family is Dutch, hence the groomsmen’s orange socks (the national color of the Netherlands).
