Monica & Ben

Aug. 27, 2010 at a private residence on Leech Lake in Walker

Monica Tary and Ben McGill, Jr.’s wedding was not only a joyous celebration of a new life together, but a loving commemoration of a life passed. Shortly before the wedding, the bride’s mother lost her battle with cancer, and the couple used the occasion to lovingly pay tribute. Monica’s mother’s presence was invoked at every turn, from the event’s location at the parents’ Leech Lake cabin to the beads from her favorite dress that were sewn into Monica’s gown. Even the mini meatloaf sliders served at cocktail hour were inspired by her famous meatloaf. The wedding was infused with a northwoods feel, with wild rice on the menu, Leech Lake Knives as groomsmen gifts, and escort card holders and centerpieces of handcrafted pie stands made from a birch tree on the cabin’s lawn. Monica surprised Ben with a seaplane ride across the lake, and the whole evening wrapped up with s’mores around the campfire.
