Lisa & Cassidy

Sept. 10, 2011 at the Larsmont Cottages in Two Harbors

Forget Hallmark. Cassidy Licence already owned a card he could use to propose to long-time love Lisa Lovaasen. Since Cass and Lisa met in the fourth grade, Cass presented Lisa with a card she had given him then—one of many notes from over the years that he had kept without her knowing until 2005, when they finally united for good. On this particular note Lisa had asked Cass—with the help of “yes” and “no” boxes to check—whether he’d sit next to her on the bus en route to their fourth grade field trip. Now many years later he wrote on the back, “Will you spend the rest of your life with me? (Check yes or no.)”

The pair planned a destination wedding for just the two of them in Turks and Caicos, but Mother Nature overruled with other plans. Since a tropical storm was brewing, Lisa and Cass were forced rethink their entire wedding—with just one week before the big day. Joy Teiken of Joynoelle, Lisa’s dressmaker, set the couple up with photographers Brandon Werth and Chelsey Paul, and a relaxed Duluth ceremony hatched. Cass and Lisa’s daughter Maeve joined them, along with a couple family members, while a friend drove over two hours each way to conduct the ceremony. The day ended with champagne and pie, toasting to fate.
