Kate & Kyle

Sept. 5, 2010 at McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis

Kate Van Hauer and Kyle Weis got engaged on a trip to Peru with Kyle’s family, the perfect start for a couple who loves to travel. On a four-day hiking trip on the Inca Trail, Kyle stopped to take a photo in front of some snow-covered peaks. He stepped off the trail, set up a tripod, then got down on one knee and presented Kate with a ring that his father had been hiding in his luggage. Returning to the camp, they were met with hugs, applause and a celebratory breakfast of a pancake layer cake. Their wedding ceremony included some unexpected humor when Kyle tried to slide Kate’s ring onto the wrong hand. He—and the wedding guests—quickly realized the mistake, and everyone had a good laugh. Though they ultimately decided to redo the ring ceremony, this moment of unplanned levity remains a sweet and cherished memory.
