Kate & Grant
Oct. 9, 2009 at Erté Restaurant in Minneapolis
Since Kate Sutton-Johnson and Grant Wibben met while working at the Guthrie Theater in 2002, it should be no surprise that their wedding was both a theatrical and highly original production. The inspired celebration incorporated various influences, dates, and venues, culminating in a festive weekend in their own neighborhood. Married in their Northeast Minneapolis turn-of-the-century home on a Friday evening, the reception followed the next night—highlighted by a five-block-long parade from their home to the reception site, Erté Restaurant and the Peacock Lounge. The couple and 100 guests (and some neighbors who joined along the way) celebrated at dusk with a New Orleans-style brass band (one of Kate and Grant’s favorite types of music), sparklers, and large balloons lit from within with LEDs. The festivities continued with great food, music, and dancing, providing good old-fashioned romanticism.
