Jess & Paul

Sept. 26, 2009 at the Wittrock-Broker Century Farm in Collegeville

Before Jess Wittrock and Paul Jussila began building their marriage, they decided to (re)build a barn. They share a love of nature and the outdoors, and Jess was raised on the family farm, so the barn was the perfect spot to celebrate. Not just any farm, however: This is the Wittrock-Broker Century Farm, in the family for more than 100 years. Luckily, Paul is a carpenter and the couple lives just 10 minutes from the farm, so he and Jess spent every day after work for an entire year renovating the barn for what would be the biggest party of their lives. Removing 100 years of hay, dirt—and yes, manure—was only the beginning. Next, Paul repaired holes in the floor and the roof, added electricity and even put in a staircase. Family members also pitched in—including two aunts, who grew sunflowers and made the floral arrangements and table linens. And what better to way to celebrate an autumn wedding than with a touch of Oktoberfest? Jess’ brother, who lives in Germany, provided the wedding party with authentic steins to drink from and each table was named for a different brew.
