Britta & Sean
Oct. 10, 2009 at Café Lurcat in Minneapolis
Their relationship may have sprung from a simple pick-up line: “So, do you want to read the New Yorker together sometime?” at a book signing for a collection of the magazine’s cartoons. But Britta Gustafson and Sean Murphy’s union has been anything but simple since. When Sean was diagnosed with lymphoma four months into their courtship, the couple grew even closer as he underwent intense chemotherapy. Sean, in excellent health since, proposed on a beach at sunrise in the Dominican Republic on the second anniversary of their first date. Their simply elegant wedding celebration was an intimate gathering of close friends and family, who all had something to share. Thoughtful details included the bride’s father accompanying himself on guitar as he sang “Take Good Care of My Baby” during his toast, and guests’ wise and witty advice on notes tucked into the bride’s grandmother’s vintage birdcage. Other meaningful items were literally woven throughout the event, from antique Polish ribbon (also from the bride’s grandmother) in the bouquets and flower girl’s dress, to pieces of the bride’s mother’s, grandmother’s, and great-grandmother’s wedding dresses sewn into the hem of her gown.
