Good deeds need no reward, but it’s always nice when it happens. Christina Griffith and Ruben Rodriguez first met in the Dominican Republic, where Christina was on a mission trip with her family and Ruben worked as a translator for mission teams. Ruben then spent his senior year as an exchange student at Christina’s high school. It took more than six years of long-distance dating, but the couple got their fairytale ending—they wed at the American Swedish Institute, which just so happens to be a castle in the middle of the city. “It was the perfect backdrop for the day,” Christina says. To achieve the glamorous look, Christina scoured thrift shops for candlesticks and picture frames to complement the venue’s existing regal décor. As beautiful as everything turned out, the couple found the most joy in having all of the people they love in one room together. “Many of Ruben’s family and friends were able to fly in and spend time with mine,” Christina says. “It was so special.”
