As startups often are, MaeMae Paperie was somewhat of a happy accident. In 2008, as a fine arts undergrad at a Southern California college, Megan Gonzalez, owner and lead designer of MaeMae Paperie, was looking to make a little income on the side. Having just designed her own wedding invitations, she began reaching out to other soon-to-be-married students at her school to see if they needed help with their wedding stationery. “I saw it more as a way to make some money before graduation, but instead it evolved into a full-time job,” says Gonzalez.
Focusing on playful, vintage-inspired yet modern designs, the stationery and paper goods company is currently carried in 30 wedding and fine stationery stores in three countries. MaeMae Paperie recently moved its home base from Los Angeles to Minneapolis, giving Twin Cities’ couples intimate access to the company’s refreshing, illustrative collections and custom design services.“Our clients are great lovers of paper and design, very stylish and love personal touches on every part of their wedding,” says Gonzalez.
“We love to create work that, while none of the graphics match exactly, harmonizes beautifully”—just like the perfect couple.
