A canary yellow tablecloth with a wide, black-and-white floral runner might not be what most brides initially envision for their wedding décor. Add to that square tables, white vinyl ottomans and black stemware, and you’d think you’d lose a bride’s interest altogether.

Time for a second look: Bungalow 6 Design’s Todd Pinzuti has a way of taking cutting-edge urban items and transforming them into grand statements. Employing alternative seating and trendy colors are just a couple of the ways Pinzuti wows his clients and adds originality to events. Another huge factor: lighting. “It’s the best way to transform any space,” says Pinzuti, who admits that 50 percent of his budgets typically land in lighting. “It can make a room.”

A self-proclaimed magazine junkie, Pinzuti encourages his clients to start a file of images they like. “Look for a theme, a story,” he says. “Subscribe to magazines and bring your own twist to a design.”

In this knockout arrangement, Pinzuti tops yellow and paisley table linens with square stacked plates from D’Amico Catering, draped linen napkins and simple silver flatware. Black-accented stemware borders a Lucite cube tray by CB2 packed with yellow rose petals, hosting floral arrangements that are surprisingly and perfectly paired. (In this case, yellow tulips braced by black stemware next to button mums detailed with black corsage pins.) Bright Gerbera daisies border all, placed in Tag votive glasses from Patina. Flaxen beeswax candles illuminate the entire affair in silver-accented votives by Midwest Importers.

The subtleties of Pinzuti’s design merit more than a quick glance. “I’m into the tiny, little details,” Pinzuti admits, while adding a simple glass sphere holding a Gerbera daisy to the composition. “It’s all about the different textures, the layers.” His finishing touch? Menus with silverware cutouts and table numbers printed in alternative fonts, by Bartlett Design.
