Connect with Your Fiancé

How to connect with your fiancé during the busy planning time

Q. Between stress at work and the craziness of planning a destination wedding, my fiancé and I haven’t had much time to connect with each other. What can we do?

A. Touch each other! Don’t worry, I’m not about to get all R-rated here—many studies have shown that touch reduces anxiety and tension. Tanya Boigenzahn, owner of Thai Yoga Bodywork in Minneapolis, offers private, clothed Thai massage training for couples. In the two-hour session, couples learn how to give and receive a short Thai massage sequence, hitting all the top tension spots, including shoulders, hips, legs and feet. “It’s a nice solid introduction to Thai bodywork,” says Boigenzahn, who regularly exchanges massages with her husband. “It’s so nurturing for a relationship. Whether you’re giving or receiving, you feel expansion in your body and wind up very relaxed.” Boigenzahn provides a manual (with photos) to take home, so you can continue to learn and practice with each other in the months leading up to your wedding. A two-hour session costs $150.
